The Erasmus + ELISE2A project, a mobility project for learning purposes, started in September 2018. This project is coordinated internally by Christophe Hup, international cooperation referent and teacher in English at Agrocampus, coordinating institution of the project over the 2018-2020 period.
The aim for young people is to discover new professional practices while immersing themselves in a new European cultural environment.
At the end of the first year of the project, a first assessment of the learners is required. During this year 2018-2019, ELISE2A enabled the mobility of 10 learners. The latter in the first mixed STAV and first STAV Production class (agronomy and life sciences and technologies sector) went either to Ireland or Germany or Malta for an internship in a professional environment in June and July 2019.
Here are some of their European impressions …
Mr Hup christophe, English teacher in Agrocampus, as part of a mobility guide, went to the Emerald Isle taking Teresa, Karl, Victor, Apoline, Audrey, Hind and Adèle from the STAV class,in his luggage…
How / when was the organization of your Erasmus mobility in Ireland?
My Erasmus in Cork took place from June 16 to 21, 2019, and as I know the procedures I organized everything myself
Did you have any concerns about this mobility?
Absolutely not, on the other hand for my students a little more because it is always a bet to send them on Erasmus abroad, will they succeed in adapting to a foreign environment, especially to a professional one?
How did your mobility go? What was the purpose?
The purpose of this mobility was to support 7 STAV pupils who themselves were going to Ireland for professional mobility, a one-month internship in a company in Cork and its surroundings. I accompanied them to their host family and their respective businesses (sometimes a 2hour and a half drive from Cork) in landscaping work, in a riding school or in a farm. I met all the internship supervisors and explained the expectations and requirements of each, even if an internship agreement is signed upstream. I also "scouted" potential future internship masters, especially in the field of pruning because as an Erasmus referent, a vocational school colleague asked me for internships for his apprentices. And it is always interesting to create an international professional network.
Have you had the opportunity to have cultural tours?
I already knew Ireland on a personal basis so I was not in the discovery itself but I had a little time to increase my personal culture by going to the gardens of Blarney and its castle in order to get information. on their professional methods as well as at the black castle
What did you personally and professionally learn with this mobility?
That it is essential to initially support pupils for their installation in the host country, this reassures them, reassures parents and foreign internship supervisors as well. Especially when it is a very first international internship over a long period. Professionally, the establishment you represent confirms its seriousness and becomes less virtual thanks to you. On a personal level, it is always rewarding to meet people and see the foreign partners with whom you collaborate.
Would you recommend doing an Erasmus?
As an English teacher, I encourage everyone, regardless of the mobility type , to do an Erasmus because language immersion is a vector of fast and lasting progress in a foreign language and as an Erasmus referent in Agrocampus I do my best to make students and staff want to try it out.
M Hup, référent erasmus SGL
As part of a professional erasmus, Louise in a STAV class was accompanied into Germany by her German teacher Ms. Karine Baudier in mobility accompanying from June 16 to 20, 2019, let's find the impressions of the latter…
How / when was the organization of your Erasmus mobility in Germany?
It was a first experience. There is a lot of rather time consuming administrative tasks. The Agrocampus Erasmus referent, Mr Christophe Hup, explained to me the different documents to complete.
Initially, it was a question of finding the internship and explaining the concept of Erasmus + mobility to companies mainly approached by telephone. All this was done between September and January 2019.
Once the internship was found I encountered a great difficulty during the exchange of documents but especially the drafting of documents. Indeed, no convention or contract was in the German language. The host company in Germany did not correctly understand them and refused to sign documents written in English or French. The translation had to be carried out by the Erasmus coordinator Mr Hup in record time and required hours of work from him.
Did you have any concerns about this mobility?
Yes. As it was the first time, I had concerns about my student's language level. I was afraid that communication could not work at all and that the internship would go badly. The first days had to go well at all costs. Personally, I feared the world of an equestrian center that I am totally ignorant about that and about contacts with animals in general.
How did your mobility go? What was the purpose?
My accompanying mobility went very well.
I literally "accompanied" my pupil the first few days.I made the link between Madame Tischler and her trainee. At the beginning I simultaneously translated a lot. I made the presentations with the staff and clients of the equestrian center. I described the tasks, compiled everything the trainee needed to make herself understood. Little by little I stepped aside and gave tips and strategies for oral comprehension to the young trainee who was more and more panicked or even inhibited. The host company was particularly isolated, so I accompanied the young trainee to the supermarket and helped her to settle in her apartment by giving landmarks (how to use the washing machine, presentation of neighbors and requests if necessary). As for me, not being introduced into the equine universe, I had to "learn" the vocabulary and the techniques of riding.
The aim, while being on site, was also to prepare the restitution work of the student in internship who will have a technical file to return during the final class. We conducted a collective reflection between the student, the internship supervisor and myself in order to see a work problem (the file will be around the health of the horse, German and French techniques being different on certain aspects. subject is already almost found). We even started to write, in German, the questions that she was going to have to discuss with the internship supervisor.
Have you had the opportunity to take cultural tours?
Yes I went to see the Museum of Fine Arts romantic period in Berlin.
For 3 days we were invited, the trainee and I, to the family table during dinner. This gave rise to significant cultural exchanges (the owners of the equestrian center experienced the fall of the Berlin Wall and came to settle in the former East Germany).
What did you personally and professionally learn with this mobility?
I have learnt to relate to people who have difficulties to express themselves in a foreign language. I have found that in reality it is only a matter of fear of making a mistake. I learned to make the 2 parties play down the situation.
Finally, would you recommend doing an Erasmus?
Yes, because it is above all a human experience!
Mister Hup, Erasmus referent SGL
Mrs. Aude Trancart, secretary at the agricultural high school of St Germain En Laye (SGL) carried out, within the framework of Erasmus for staff, a professional mobility internship in Ireland from April 29 to May 02, 2019. Back in France, let's meet up with Aude and her impressions below …
How did you organize your Erasmus internship in Ireland?
The organization by Mr. Hup, international cooperation referent of the school, and the partner of the celticinternship consortium was perfect, I had no bad or unpleasant surprises for both accommodation and training in Ireland.
Did you have any concerns about this mobility?
Indeed yes, I did. And especially in relation to the understanding of a foreign language due to the Irish accent. And then, full language immersion can be stressful... finally, everything went well.
How did your internship go?
It went very well, in accordance with my professional expectations. Comparing to my professional experience with my Irish counterparts, being trained with different tools and professional practices concerning the secretariat, all in English , was really enriching for my visions and ways of doing so in my work.
Have you had the opportunity to take cultural tours in Ireland?
Yes, on my own, like a big girl, I am proud of it, I visited magnificent churches, the Cork University, very impressive in structure and surface.
What have you personally and professionally learned with this mobility?
Both personally and professionally, I learned to do things on my own despite the language barrier that I feared a lot and ultimately unjustifiably. The very warm welcome from the Irish was really nice especially during my professional training, with a very friendly Irish secretary who took time to show me and explain to me her professional practices, giving me ideas to reinvest them in my own work. A lot of things were based on mutual aid and communication.
Finally, would you recommend doing an Erasmus?
Yes absolutely, for everyone, I would have liked my mobility to be longer, at least a week because there are so many things to see, so many professional practices to discover and to appropriate and so many welcoming people to know. A very nice experience!
